Hypolimnetic oxygen consumption by sediment-based reduced substances in former eutrophic lakes
Hypolimnetic oxygen consumption sediment-based reduced substances former eutrophic lakes
font style='font-size:12px;'>
2014/4/16
We quantified the areal hypolimnetic mineralization rate (AHM; total areal hypolimnetic oxygen depletion including the formation of reduced substances) in two formerly eutrophic lakes based on 20 yr o...
Nonlinear Wave–Wave Interactions in a One-Layer Reduced-Gravity Model on the Equatorial β Plane
Nonlinear Wave–Wave Interactions Equatorial β Plane One-Layer Reduced-Gravity Model

2009/2/7
A one-layer reduced-gravity model in the unbounded equatorial β plane is the simplest way to study nonlinear effects in a tropical ocean. The free evolution of the system is constrained by the existen...
Assimilation of Geosat Altimetric Data in a Nonlinear Reduced-Gravity Model of the Indian Ocean. Part 1:Adjoint Approach and Model-Data Consistency
Geosat Altimetric Data Nonlinear Reduced-Gravity Model Indian Ocean Model-Data Consistency

2008/12/16
Geosat sea-level variations are assimilated into a nonlinear shallow-water model of the Indian Ocean. After spinup, the model forced by observed winds over 1985–1988 provides a first guess for initial...
The Statistics and Sensitivity of a Double-Gyre Model:The Reduced-Gravity, Quasigeostrophic Case

Abyssal circulation around a sea mountain and a depression in a midlatitude basin is investigated with a reduced-gravity model characterized by vertical and horizontal diffusion of both momentum and d...
Phenomenology of the Low-Frequency Variability in a Reduced-Gravity, Quasigeostrophic Double-Gyre Model
low-frequency variability Double-Gyre Model oceanic wind-driven circulation
font style='font-size:12px;'>
2008/12/9
The low-frequency variability of the oceanic wind-driven circulation is investigated by use of a reduced-gravity, quasigeostrophic model with slight variations on the classic double-gyre wind forcing....
Analytical Solutions for Circular Eddies of the Reduced-Gravity, Shallow-Water Equations
Circular Eddies Shallow-Water Equations Reduced-Gravity
font style='font-size:12px;'>
2008/10/29
New analytical, circular eddy solutions of the nonlinear, reduced-gravity, shallow-water equations in a rotating system are presented. While previous analytical solutions were limited to the descripti...
Valuable mineral resources are widely distributed throughout the seabed. autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) are preferable to remotely-operated vehicles (ROVs) when probing for such mineral resources as the extensive exploration area makes it difficult to maintain contact with operators. AUVs depend on batteries, so their power consumption should be reduced to extend exploration time. Power for conventional marine instrument systems is incorporated in their waterproof sealing. External intermittent control of this power source until termination of exploration is challenging due to limitations imposed by the underwater environment. Thus, the AUV must have a power control system that can improve performance and maximize use of battery capacity. The authors developed such a power control system with a three-step algorithm. It automatically detects underwater operational states and can limit power, effectively decreasing power consumption by about 15%.
